~~Trip to Mystique Land-Day 1~~

It was the trip we were looking forward to for a month and the day has arrived. There were many checks and follow up calls between KG and me,the final call from KG asking me to have bath for the day.

Only effort I made from my side was I took an auto and reached Triplicane by 8:30am after which all the logistics for the whole trip were taken care by KG.When I reached there a taxi was waiting there to take us to the airport. We have booked a spice jet flight from Chennai to Bagdogra with a stopover at Calcutta. After formal baggage and security checks we went on to board the flight. KG had choose our seat numbers in advance 7a,7b. KG generously(!) gave me the window seat and was expecting some beautiful girl would occupy aisle. His stars were bad that day, a guy that too from army occupied our aisle.

It was budget airlines and we were not interested to eat sandwiches costing 150 bucks for our lunch. Guess what we were well prepared for this scenario in advance, I had packed soft rotis with aloo masala made by grandma and KG had packed puliyodarai made by his mom.So when the flight stopped at Calcutta for stopover we opened our packs and had our home made lunch on board.Nothing is delicious as having our own food on board.

Since the army guy in aisle continued the journey to Bagdogra, KG was no more interested to sit middle and asked me to move to there so that he can try looking outside the window and try out his luck. Guys keep in mind if you ever take a flight to Bagdogra take care you get a window seat on the left side. The last ten minutes of the journey you would get to watch snow capped mountains of the eastern Himalayas or otherwise known as the Kanchenjunga range. It is a treat to the eyes looking at those majestic mountains from the high skies.

Once our flight landed ,we knew we should hire a Mahindra max jeep for a comfortable journey to reach Gangtok. If we had some company we could share the expenses.KG started checking with few girls around whether they are bound for Gangtok but to his dismay all were going to Darjeeling. In the end sans any girls myself and KG hired a jeep to goto Gangtok.Oh man journey to Gangtok was a back breaking experience, half the road was missing or broken.Rest of our journey(I mean the entire trip) was like that such that we got used to those road conditions.

A 100km distant took us a 5 hours ,on reaching Gangtok our driver took us to the hotel where we supposed to stay.We dumped all luggage in our room ,had dinner and went out to explore the city.MG mart is a great hangout place situated in the heart of the city.We walked the entire stretch checking out the restaurants where we should eat and shops to buy things and people who are worth enough to look at. Because of the tiresome journey and the long walk we had a very good sleep that day.

KG's dream to take a girl in our jeep got materialised the very next day in a different circumstance!

I know what happened the morning these guys left. KG called Mala chithi (day she took break from Mouna virutam) and asked her to do spcl meditation to bless KG with a beautiful girl on the seat next to him. So Chithi gave him a blessing that ended up having an army guy......

Well...each one of us is expert in spinning a story.

and Mala is super-specialist and we have ppl like Diana who believe everything.

@Shiela : All these dialogues of Girls have been added by Sri to bring-out cinematic humorous and this trip is about nature-adventure and not chasing-girls.

And Sriram - Continue the play :)

Awesome da. I remember when we went to Darjeeling around 11 yrs back we had to go to a place called Siliguri in West Bengal. I see that its not too far of from Bagdogra(looks like the next stop). From Siliguri similarly we had to take a Jeep to head to the top. Short distance but long journey due to heavy rains, poor visibility and bad roads. To get to siliguri we first got down in a place called New Jalpaiguri by taking the cochin guwahati express which I believe was then the longest train journey in India. Very informative blog. Will help plan my trip in future :).
